African-American artists, from Michael Jackson to Marvin Gaye including Miriam Makeba, signified the recent history of music. Music that grooves, and flows from the banks of the Congo River to the jungles of Harlem. We call it "black music", a very American concept that wanders both sides of the Atlantic ocean.
The Cite de la musique intends to honor all styles of black music through a large exhibit based on a large number of archives, tools and training modules. The exhibit is divided into six themes and attempts to cloak the broadest spectrum of black music and include what makes the music produced by Blacks of the diaspora unique, and what unites it on the African continent. A fascinating exhibit.
